Alopecia simply means hair loss (baldness). Alopecia areata is a form of hair loss from areas of the body, usually from the scalp. Alopecia areata affects both males and females. Alopecia areata does not make you feel pain and does not make you feel sick. In 1–2% of cases, the condition can spread to the entire scalp (Alopecia totalis) or to the entire epidermis (Alopecia universalis). Some people may lose more hair. Rarely, the disease causes total loss of hair on the head or complete loss of hair on the head, face, and body. Alopecia areata usually starts with one or more small, round, smooth bald patches on the scalp and can progress to total scalp hair loss (alopecia totalis) or complete body hair loss (alopecia universalis). Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disease. Normally the immune system protects the body against infection and disease. In an autoimmune disease, the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks some part of your own body. In alopecia areata, the immune system attacks the hair follicles. On rare occasions, the person loses all of the hair on his or her head (alopecia areata totalis) or entire body (alopecia areata universalis). Alopecia is the medical term for baldness; there are various types of alopecia, including alopecia areata.
Alopecia areata tends to occur most often in children and young adults. However, it can also affect older individuals. Alopecia can certainly be the cause of psychological stress. There are several different hypotheses as to what causes alopecia areata. Genetic factors seem to play an important role since there is a higher frequency of a family. Trichotillomania is the name of a mental disorder that causes a person to pull out his/her own hair. Alopecia areata often occurs in families whose members have had asthma, hay fever, atopic eczema, or other autoimmune diseases such as thyroid disease, early-onset diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus erythematosus, vitiligo, pernicious anemia, or Addison’s disease. Systemic diseases often affect hair growth either selectively or by altering the skin of the scalp. Hyperthyroidism (too much thyroid hormone) causes hair to become thin and fine. Hypothyroidism (too little thyroid hormone) thickens both hair and skin. Androgenetic alopecia in men has been associated with several other medical conditions including coronary heart disease and enlargement of the prostate, a walnut-sized gland in males that is located below the bladder. In women, androgenetic alopecia is associated with an increased risk of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). PCOS is characterized by a hormonal imbalance that can lead to irregular menstruation, acne, excess body hair (hirsutism), and weight gain.
There are several available treatments for Alopecia. Two relatively new drugs—minoxidil (Rogaine) and finasteride (Proscar)—promote hair growth in a significant minority of patents. UVB is generally used to treat skin conditions but is also used for people with severe hair loss.Steroid injections are commonly used in sites where there are small areas of hair loss on the head or especially where eyebrow hair has been lost. Anti-inflammatory drugs that are prescribed for autoimmune diseases. Corticosteroids can be given as an injection into the scalp or other areas, orally (as a pill), or applied topically (rubbed into the skin) as an ointment, cream, or foam. Hair transplantation is completed by taking tiny plugs of skin, each containing one to several hairs, from the back side of the scalp. Another surgical procedure used to treat androgenic alopecia is scalp reduction. Cortisone pills are sometimes given for extensive scalp hair loss. Cortisone taken internally is much stronger than local injections of cortisone into the skin. It is necessary to discuss possible side effects of cortisone pills with your physician. , there are various cosmetic and protective techniques that people with alopecia areata can try. Include is Using makeup to hide or minimize hair loss. Wearing sunglasses to protect the eyes from the sun and the environment. Wearing coverings (wigs, hats, or scarves) to protect the head from the elements

Most of the women suffer from postpartum hair loss, which happens after the child birth. The problem of hair loss occurs when the women nears menopausal stage. Some of the common reasons for hair loss due to hormonal changes are anxieties, traumatic experience or acute stress. The hair loss or hypothyroidism is caused due to hormone secretion from thyroid and pituitary glands. The hair treatment would normally include specific medicines to cure the hormonal imbalance.
Genetically hair loss is also caused due to the secretion Di-Hydro Testosterone (or DHT) in excess quantities. Biologically DHT is an active metabolite in the testosterone. DHT is the major culprit for male-pattern baldness which is medically termed as androgenic alopecia and requires baldness treatment. Patients with excess of DHT are given anti-androgenic therapy, a time consuming treatment.
When the problem of hair loss reaches an irreparable and severe stage no other hair treatment can address the issue except hair transplantation, which is an expensive procedure. Due to the recent advancements in medical technology, with the help of newer systems, hair transplantation is performed by stimulation of hair follicles in affected areas. There are gender and ethnic considerations in hair treatment methods, such as hair transplantation, medical hair restoration, alopecia or baldness. After the hair treatment operation, it will be difficult to distinguish the normal area with post operative part.
Though the solutions offered by experts may differ with each other, it is commonly believed that the key to the hair treatment lies in identifying the cause of hair loss problem. Since the cause for hair loss differs with each other, the treatment that works for some other person may not suit you at all. Hence, after identifying the cause of hair loss, you should examine the best treatments available in the market.
There are various kinds of hair treatment including hair transplantation and baldness treatment. If you seek real hair restoration for your balding head, before considering various hair treatment options like hair transplantation or baldness treatment, it is very for you to discover the root cause for your hair loss.

Everyday, you shed more or less 100 strands of hair from your scalp. This is normal as there is a balance on hair growth and hair shedding. However, as time passes, you will notice that more and more of your hair will shed and few grow back. If this is the case, then you will want to start considering getting hair loss treatment for men.
First of all, it is important that you should understand why this happens. Hair loss normally happens because of a condition called male pattern baldness or MLB. This condition can be experienced by both males and females. In male pattern baldness or MLB, a particular hormone inside the body will increase, which is called DHT. The DHT is a byproduct of the testosterone which can eventually help in the development process of the human body.
However, as you grow older and as the DHT increases, you will see that it will be the cause of hair loss. Now, in order for you to treat this kind of hair loss, you might want to try and inhibit the DHT. By inhibiting the DHT, you will be able to bring back the balance between hair loss and hair growth. This means that you will be able to grow hair back.
Today, there are a number of products and supplements that can effectively treat hair loss. Normally, products like this will inhibit the DHT. In fact, there are even natural herbs that can inhibit DHT without the use of other chemicals that can be harmful to you body.
Another hair loss treatment is the hair transplant. This is a surgical procedure that will involve inserting new hair follicles in your scalp. The great thing about this treatment is that you will get fast result and with care, you will be able to get hair back in a matter of weeks.
Many men today are now considering getting a hair transplant as it can effectively grow hair back. However, if you are not comfortable with the idea of having someone poke in hair in your head, then you might want to try the natural methods by taking supplements and using hair creams and other regimens that claims to promote hair growth and reduces hair loss.
Whatever your reason for growing hair back, you will see that there are quite a lot of treatments available for men today. With these treatments, going bald is now considered to be a thing of the past. Although most methods aren’t perfected yet, many people who have tried transplants and other forms of treatments have stated that it really does work.
After a few sessions and after regularly taking medications and supplements, many have stated that they got to grow their hair back.
So, if you have that receding hairline or if you noticed that your hair is becoming a little too thin, it may be time for you to start considering hair loss treatment for men. With these treatments, you will see that it will not only stop hair loss, but it will also help in growing new hair back. Who knows? Maybe in the near future, considering the success of treatments available today, hair loss may never be a problem for most men again.
